William Westley Church of England Primary School Let your light shine

'Let your light shine before others that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven' Matthew 5:16

Curriculum

We pride ourselves on providing our children with an inspiring curriculum. The curriculum is structured to provide continuity and progression throughout year groups, key stages and the whole school. We organise the curriculum through a mixture of topic work and discrete subjects. Subjects are linked through themes where there is a connection likely to promote high quality learning but are taught discretely where it is of more benefit. Curriculum frameworks are regularly developed and refined.RE is taught in line with the Cambridgeshire Agreed Syllabus using Understanding Christianity and The Emmanuel Project. The Early Years Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage underpins the learning experiences of children starting school. It covers the specific areas of Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding of the World and Expressive Arts and Design.

The school grounds and local environment, educational visits and visitors to school contribute greatly to a curriculum relevant to the children’s experience and to learning at first hand. They are used each term to support the learning and teaching.

The wide range of extra-curricular activity provided by staff makes a positive contribution to the sense of continuity felt by pupils between the statutory curriculum and learning for life.
